Dalton Lake
Dalton Lake is a quiet 2.8-acre lake on Little Elk Creek, surrounded by forest and rich history. The lake is about 15 feet deep and offers great fishing for rainbow and brook trout. Shoreline access is excellent, and there’s a fishing pier for added convenience. Non-motorized boating is allowed.
The South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Department manages fishing here, so check state regulations before you cast a line.
A Bit of History
Dalton Lake’s dam was built between 1934 and 1937 as part of a project to create recreation areas in Meade County. The Civilian Conservation Corps constructed the campground in 1935 and even built a ski slide downstream, which later fell out of use. Today, the sheltered picnic area remains a favorite spot for visitors.
In 2011–2012, the Forest Service and South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks drained and dredged the lake to improve its habitat.

Directions
To access Dalton Lake from Nemo, SD, travel north on FSR 26 for approximately four miles. Turn right, or east onto FSR 224, Dalton Lake Road. Travel on 224 for approximately five miles to the lake.
