Cook Lake Recreation Area
Recreation and Relaxation
Cook Lake Recreation Area is perhaps one of the best kept secrets of the Black Hills National Forest. It offers picnic sites, camping, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and other outdoor opportunities. Yet, the area remains somewhat isolated from the heavy visitation of the central Black Hills. This allows for lesser crowds and a more secluded nature experience.
The campground is tucked into the hillside above the lake. The picnic areas are situated along the shoreline, with easy access from the nearby parking lots. Floating docks allow fishing enthusiasts greater access to the water. A shoreline trail provides for some easy hiking, especially with younger family members. And regardless of your location, the lake scenery combines with the surrounding forest to create a tranquil environment for any lover of the outdoors.
