Forest Management

The Forests and Grassland is over 1.6 million acres with a great deal of management taking place to improve forest health, manage for wildfire risk reduction, provide timber, better wildlife habitat and more. This landscape offers a variety of ecosystems rich in history, geology, scenery, wildlife habitat and recreation opportunities. The agency’s top priority is to maintain and improve the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of current and future generations.

Visit our Planning to learn more about how we manage the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests & Pawnee National Grassland under the 1997 Forest Plan. The Projects page highlights various National Environmental Policy Act efforts that are underway on the Forests and Grassland.

Federal Prohibitions and Special Orders that cover the Forests and Grassland describe the prohibitions, closures, and regulations of various activities. These are subject to updates and changes, so should be checked frequently.
