Forest Order

PROHIBITION
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R § 261.50(a), the following act is prohibited on
the National Forest System (NFS) lands in the Canyon Lakes, Clear Creek, and Sulphur
Ranger Districts of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National
Grassland, described in detail below and shown on the attached maps incorporated into
this Order as Appendices A, B, and C, hereinafter referred to as the “Described Areas”:
 

1. Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun. 36 C.F.R. § 261.58(m).

EXEMPTIONS
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
1. Persons in possession of Forest Service form FS-7700-48, Permit for Use of
Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order, specifically exempting
them from this Order or a written determination by a Forest Service authorized
officer that a permit is not required under 36 C.F.R. § 251.50(e)(1) or (e)(2).
2. Any Federal, State, or local law enforcement officer in the performance of an
official duty.
3. Persons in possession of a valid State of Colorado hunting license who are
hunting in compliance with Colorado law.

DESCRIBED AREAS
The Described Areas include the following NFS lands located in Clear Creek, Jefferson,
and Park Counties, Colorado:

Southern Clear Creek, Jefferson, and Park County Described Area (Appendix A):
all NFS lands identified as unsuitable for recreational shooting in the Arapaho and

Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland’s 2019 Recreational Sport
Shooting Management Decision Notice (DN) and Finding of No Significant Impact
(FONSI) between the southern boundary of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National
Forests and Pawnee National Grassland north to Interstate 70 and west to the Clear
Creek Ranger District boundary, including the following sections, townships, and ranges
(6th Principal Meridian):

o Section 31, Township 3 South, Range 72 West
o Sections 6-9, 14-23, 27-30, Township 4 South, Range 72 West
o Sections 1-3, 7-19, 23-29, 32-33, Township 4 South, Range 73 West

Northern Larimer County (Appendix B) and Grand County (Appendix C) Described Areas: all NFS lands identified as unsuitable for recreational shooting in the
DN and FONSI, including all unsuitable lands within the Sulphur Ranger District and the
Canyon Lakes Ranger District north of United States Highway 34.
 

The northern Larimer County Described Area includes the following sections,

IMPLEMENTATION
1. This Order will be effective on August 13, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. and shall remain in
effect until it is rescinded.

2. Maps of the Described Areas are incorporated into this Order as Appendices A,
B, and C.
