Completed Webinars

Western Washington FVS

This webinar focused on the similarities and differences of FVS variants that cover the Pacific Northwest. The inclusion of ORGANON growth functions into the FVS Pacific Northwest and West Cascades variants and updates to the mortality logic in these variants is discussed. This webinar was presented on February 16, 2016.

Modeling Western Root Disease in FVS

This webinar focused on applying the Western Root Disease model in the Forest Service's Northern Region (Region 1) and includes a general overview of model concepts, initialization, controls, modifiers, and output. This webinar was presented on October 8, 2015.

Introduction to the FVS Carbon Reports

This webinar introduced participants to the FVS Carbon Reports. A summary of the carbon reports and underlying calculations was given, along with a demonstration on how to request and interpret the reports. This webinar was presented on May 21, 2015.

WRENSS Water Yield Post Processor

The FVS-WRENSS water yield post-processor predicts changes in water yield using vegetative and site data from Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS) projections and user defined precipitation patterns. The hydrological methods are based on the U.S. Forest Service’s Water Resources Evaluation of Non-Point Silvicultural Sources (WRENSS) Procedural Handbook. An overview of the FVS-WRENSS post-processor was followed by a demonstration showing the effect of simulated forest management actions on water yield in the western United States. This webinar was presented on April 14, 2015.

Climate-FVS

The FVS staff partnered with Nicholas Crookston, Rocky Mountain Research Station (RMRS), to present two webinars to introduce users to Climate-FVS. They occurred February 15, 2011, 9:00-10:30 AM Pacific, and March 10, 2011, 1:30-3:00 PM Pacific. The webinars briefly discussed the FVS model, the scientific underpinnings of Climate-FVS, the appropriate uses of the model, including sources of uncertainties and limitations, and a project level demonstration of Climate-FVS.
