Birds

For those who maintain an Alaska “lifelist,” the birdlife in Hyder is unique. The town is located far up Portland Canal and closer to interior British Columbia than to the seacoast. Fore these reasons, bird species of interior North America can frequently be seen in Hyder but only rarely elsewhere in the state.

Fish

Both pink salmon and chum salmon can be found in Fish Creek and Marx Creek from mid-July to early September. The chum salmon that use these streams can weigh up to 30 pounds, much larger than average.
