The first Advisory Council meeting was held October 14–15, 2015, from 8am to 5pm PDT at the Best Western Edgewater Resort, 56 Bridge Street, Sandpoint, Idaho.

The purpose of this first meeting is to provide:
- overview of legislation, policy, and interagency planning requirements for National Scenic Trails;
- discussion of planning approach, process, and schedule for the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail comprehensive plan; and
- recommendations regarding the work, priorities, and schedule for the Advisory Council.
