PALISADES RANGER DISTRICT APPLIES FOR RECREATIONAL GRANTS

The Palisades Ranger District of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest will be submitting grant applications to the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR). If approved, these grants will provide the Forest Service with funds for several projects on the Palisades District. These include requests from the Off-Road Motor Vehicle, Recreational Trails Program, Waterways Improvement Fund and the Recreational Vehicle Fund.

The grant requests include funding for:

  1. Palisades Ranger District Light Trail Maintenance Crew, general maintenance of the Palisades Ranger District trail system, of both motorized and non-motorized trails.
  2. Purchase a new UTV for motorized trail maintenance.
  3.  Big Elk Inlet Boat Ramp Improvements, rearrange parking lot and vault toilet to accommodate more vehicles.
  4. Dispersed Campsite Improvements, harden with gravel access to dispersed campsites where heavy use is occurring and causing extensive resource damage. Will also include barrier rock and fencing to refine where people can access the area.
