Upcoming Public Open House and Scoping Period for Sabino Canyon Visitor Center Reimagined

Tucson, Ariz., (June 26, 2024) –The Coronado National Forest and Friends of Sabino Canyon announce the upcoming scoping period for the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center Reimagined project to reimagine and reinvent the Sabino Canyon Visitor Center complex in the Santa Catalina Ranger District.

On November 12, 2023, the Friends of Sabino Canyon, a non-profit community-based organization, and the Coronado National Forest shared the official launch announcement outlining the planned development of a conceptual design to replace the old facility and provide a new front porch for Sabino Canyon. Starting July 11, 2024, the new design developed by Weddle Gilmore, an Arizona-based design firm, will bring to life the collaborative efforts of the project steering committee, partner organizations, and local Tribes. The design will be publicly available for comment on the project website: https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=65809.

A public open house will be held on July 11, 2024, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Tucson Hotel and Suites, 5151 E. Grant Rd, Tucson, AZ 85712. The 30-day public scoping period will take place from July 11 through August 12, 2024. The electronic form to submit comments will be available starting July 11, 2024. Written comments may be submitted via mail or hand delivery (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding weekends) to:

The Sabino Canyon Recreation Area is located at the edge of the growing Tucson, Arizona metropolitan area. The area’s impressive desert scenery, riparian resources, and recreation opportunities draw over one million visitors annually making it the most visited area in the Coronado National Forest.
