The public can begin making reservations through a seasonal permit system to visit Fossil Creek starting March 1, 2017. Seasonal reservations are required from April 1 through October 1, 2017, for day-use visitation in the Fossil Creek Permit Area, located within the Coconino and the Tonto national forests. The Forest Service reports they had to turn away over 30,000 people last year because of the number of people present. It also reports that over 200 people were rescued from Fossil Creek last year alone, and that congested roads presented accessibility issues for emergency vehicles.
