Occupancy and Use Restrictions for the Chequamegon - Nicolet National Forest

Under authority of the Act of Congress of June 4, 1897, 16 USC 551, and pursuant to the Secretary of Agriculture's Regulations set forth at 36 CFR 261.50(a) and 261.50(b), the following acts or omissions are prohibited on National Forest System lands, roads and trails on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Ashland, Bayfield, Price, Sawyer, Taylor, Vilas, Oneida, Florence, Forest, Langlade and Oconto Counties, Wisconsin:

GENERAL OCCUPANCY and USE

  1. Camping at a developed recreation site for longer than 14 consecutive days, unless otherwise posted, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(a).
  2. Camping on any National Forest System lands for longer than 21 consecutive days is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(a).
  3. Entering or using a developed recreation site or portion thereof when posted closed is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(b)
  4. Entering or remaining in a campground between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., in violation of a posted sign, except For persons who are occupying such campgrounds, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(c).
  5. Using a developed campsite by more than eight (8) users unless otherwise posted is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(f).
  6. Parking or leaving a vehicle in violation of posted instructions is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(g). '
  7. Parking or leaving a vehicle outside a parking space assigned to one's own camp unit is prohibited unless overflow parking is provided. 36 CFR 261.58(h).
  8. Being publicly nude is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(j).
  9. Possessing or operating a motorboat in violation of U.S. Coast Guard regulations, Wisconsin state law, or Wisconsin DNR regulations is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(n).
  10. Storing or leaving a boat, raft, canoe or other watercraft, not associated with a current recreational occupancy or use, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(p).
  11. Launching or retrieving a boat, with a trailer, except at a designated boat launching ramp or facility is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(r).
  12. Possessing, storing, or transporting any part of the plant genus Cannabis, commonly referred to as Marijuana or Hemp, or any derivative there from, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(t). [Eastern District of Wisconsin only]
  13. Possessing a beverage which is defined as an alcoholic beverage by State Law by persons under the age of 21 years is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(bb).

FIRE

  1. Possessing, discharging, or using any kind of firework or other pyrotechnic device is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(f).
  2. Operating or using an internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained, and in effective working order meeting either (1) Department of Agriculture, Forest Service Standard 5100-la; or (2) appropriate Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) recommended practice 1335(b) and 1350(a) is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(j).
  3. Violating any State law concerning burning, fires or which is for the purpose of preventing or restricting the spread of fires is prohibited. 36 CFR 261. 52(k).

FIREWOOD (pdf)

Possessing, storing or transporting any part of a tree or other plant as described below (36 CFR 261.58(t)).

  1. Any firewood of any species purchased or gathered from a distance of more than 25 miles of a Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest campsite, picnic site or destination, unless certified as described below.
  2. Any firewood from a federal or state quarantined county or area.

NATIONAL FOREST SYSTEM ROADS

  1. Using a motor vehicle on a National Forest System road which has a physical barrier in place, such as: a gate, berm of earth, trench, posts, logs, rocks, or natural vegetation which blocks or impedes passage, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.54(a).
  2. Operating any type of motor vehicle on National Forest System roads that have been signed to temporarily prohibit such use is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.54(d)
  3. Operating a vehicle on National Forest System roads in violation of the posted speed, load, weight, height, length, or width limitations; or in violation of State law, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.54(d)
  4. Using a road for commercial hauling without a permit or other written authorization is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.54 (c)
  5. Operating a vehicle carelessly, recklessly, or without regard for the rights or safety of other persons or in a manner or at a speed that would endanger or be likely to endanger any person or property, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.54(f)
  6. Using a snowmobile on National Forest System roads unless such road is unplowed and has a snow accumulation exceeding four inches is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.54(a).
  7. Operating any vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol on a National Forest System Road is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.54(d).
  8. Possessing an alcoholic beverage pursuant to WI 346.935 is prohibited; to wit: (1) No person may drink alcohol beverages while he or she is in any motor vehicle when the vehicle is upon a National Forest System Road; (2) No person may possess on his or her person, in a privately owned motor vehicle upon a National Forest System Road, any bottle or receptacle containing alcohol beverages if the bottle or receptacle has been opened, the seal has been broken or the contents of the bottle or receptacle have been partially removed or released. 36 CFR 261.58(bb).
  9. Operating any vehicle without current registration. 36 CFR 261.54(d)
  10. Operating any vehicle without a valid driver's license. 36 CFR 261.54(d)
  11. Operating any vehicle without proper safety equipment brakes, lights, or other equipment needed for the safety of the occupants. 36 CFR 261.54(d)
  12. Operating any vehicle in an unsafe manner, sitting on fenders, standing in the back of a vehicle. 36 CFR 261.54(d)

NATIONAL FOREST SYSTEM TRAILS

  1. Using a motor vehicle on a National Forest System trail which has a physical barrier in place, such as: a gate, berm of earth, trench, posts, logs, rocks, or natural vegetation which' blocks or impedes passage, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.55(b).
  2. Using snowmobile on a National Forest System trail is prohibited unless designated 'open" for such use by posting. 36 CFR 261.55(b).
  3. Using a bicycle, horse, or other pack or saddle animal, on National Forest System trails is prohibited between March 15th and April 30th of each calendar year. 36 CFR 261.55(c).
  4. Operating a vehicle on National Forest System trails in violation of the posted speed, width, weight, height, or length limitations; or in violation of State law, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.55(d)
  5. Operating any vehicle without current registration. 36 CFR 261.55(d)
  6. Operating any vehicle without a valid driver's license. 36 CFR 261.55(d)
  7. Operating any vehicle without proper safety equipment, brakes, lights, or other equipment needed for the safety of the occupants. 36 CFR 261.55(d)
  8. Operating any vehicle while transporting passengers in an unsafe manner, sitting, on fenders, standing in the back of a vehicle. 36 CFR 261.55(d)
  9. Operating any vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol on a National Forest Trail is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.55(d)
  10. Possessing an alcoholic beverage pursuant to WI 346.935 is prohibited; to wit: (1) No person may drink alcohol beverages while he or she is in any motor vehicle when the vehicle is upon a National Forest System Trail; (2) No person may possess on his or her person, in a privately owned motor vehicle upon a National Forest System Trail, any bottle or receptacle containing alcohol beverages if the bottle or receptacle has been opened, the seal has been broken or the contents of the bottle or receptacle have been partially removed or released. 36 CFR 261.58(bb).

USE OF VEHICLES OFF NATIONAL FOREST SYSTEM ROADS

  1. It is prohibited to possess or use a motor vehicle off National Forest System roads. 36 CFR 261.56.

SPECIAL AREA RESTRICTIONS

ARCHIBALD LAKE-CATHEDRAL PINES AREA

The following acts are prohibited at the ARCHIBALD LAKE-CATHEDRAL PINES AREA and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Oconto County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: National Forest lands north and east of Archibald Lake, including portions of Section 35 and 36, T33N R15E, and Sections 1, 2 and 11, T32N R15E (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit A):

  1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
  2. Camping is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(e).

BAGLEY RAPIDS AREA

The following acts are prohibited at the BAGLEY RAPIDS and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Oconto, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: National Forest lands south of Bagley Rapids Campground and east of the Oconto River, located in portions of Section 23, T31N R16E (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit B):

  1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
  2. Camping is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(e).

BEAR LAKE AREA

The following acts are prohibited at BEAR LAKE and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Ashland County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: National Forest lands on the north side of Bear Lake, located in portions of Section 31, T41N R3W, and Section 36, T41N R4W (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit C):

  1. Going into or being upon any lakeshore land on the north side of Bear Lake between February 15th and August lst of each calendar year is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.53(a).

BEAR PAW LAKE AREA

The following acts are prohibited at the BEAR PAW LAKE PUBLIC BOAT RAMP and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Oconto County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-

Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: National Forest lands on the east shore of Bear Paw Lake, at the public boat ramp at the terminus of Forest Road 2303, located in portions of Section 9, T31N R17E (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit D):

  1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
  2. Camping is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(e).

BLACKWELL JOB CORP CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CENTER

The following acts are prohibited at the BLACKWELL JOB CORP CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CENTER and the National, Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Forest County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: All lands, buildings and facilities administered by the USDA Forest Service located at and adjacent to the Blackwell lob Corp Civilian Conservation Center, 4155 County Highway 'H", Laona, Wisconsin (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit E):

  1. Possessing a beverage which is defined as an alcoholic beverage by State Law is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(bb).

BOULDER LAKE AREA

The following acts are prohibited at the BOULDER LAKE BOAT RAMP AREA and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Oconto, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: National Forest lands on the southwest shore of Boulder Lake and the vicinity of the public boat ramp located the terminus of Forest Road 2116, located in portions of Section 29, T31N R15E (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit F):

  1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
  2. Camping is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(e).

CHUTE POND AREA

The following acts are prohibited at the CHUTE POND EAST SHORE DRIVE and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Oconto County; Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: National Forest lands located north and east of Chute Pond, transected by East Shore Drive, Forest Road 2069, and located in portions of Section 25, T31N R16E (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit G):

  1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
  2. Camping is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(e).

FOREST LODGE SPECIAL MANAGEMENT AREAS

The following acts are prohibited within the Forest Lodge Special Management Areas, consisting of the Life Estate of Mary Griggs Burke, Fairyland Research Natural Area, and Special Management Areas within and adjacent thereto, located in Bayfield County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: The Mary Livingston-Griggs Historical Special Management Area, Fairyland Research Natural Area, Champagne Island, and the Mary Griggs-Burke Scenic Special Management Area excluding Burgundy Point in T43N, R6W, Sections 15 and 16 (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit H):

  1. Going into or being upon the area is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.53(f).
  2. Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun within 1000 feet the lakeshore or buildings is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(m).

Area Description: Burgundy Point of the Mary Griggs-Burke Scenic Special Management Area and Mary Griggs-Burke Botanical Speciai Management Area located in Sections 15 and 22, T43N R6W (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit I):

  1. Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun within 1000 feet the lakeshore or buildings is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(m).
  2. Building, maintaining, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(a).

Area Description: The Forest Lodge Nature Trail in the portion of the Mary Griggs-Burke Botanical Special Management Area located north of County Highway 'M", west of Forest Road 203, and south of Garmisch Road, within Section 22, T43N R6W; and the day use area and trailhead of the Forest Lodge Nature Trail (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit I):

  1. Building, maintaining, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
  2. Using a bicycle, wheeled cart or motorized vehicle is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.55(b).
  3. Using a saddle, pack, or draft animal is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.55(c).
  4. Camping is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(e).
  5. Being in the area between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. 36 CFR 261.58(u).

HlMLEY LAKE AREA

The following acts are prohibited at the HIMLEY LAKE and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Forest County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: All National Forest lands and islands adjacent to the waters of Himley Lake, located in portions of Section 33, T35N R14E, and Section 4, T34N R14E; (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit K):

  1. Going into or being upon any island within Himley Lake is prohibited between April 1 and September 1 of each calendar year. 36 CFR 261.53(a).

MONDEAUX FLOWAGE AREA

The, following acts are prohibited at the MONDEAUX FLOWAGE AREA and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Taylor County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: All National Forest lands located within the boundaries of County Highway "D" on the north; County Highway "E" on the west; Forest Road 102 on the south, and Forest Road 104 on the east to the junction of Forest Road 106 and north on Forest Road 106 to the junction with County D; and including Section 6, T32N R1E; Section 1and 2, T32N R1W; Sections 13, 14, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 34, 35, and 36, T33N RLW; and Sections 19, 30, and 31, T33N R1E; (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit L):

  1. It is prohibited to engage in "bear baiting" in the area between the dates of April 1'' and September 30th of each calendar year. 36 CFR 261.58(v).
  2. It is prohibited to engage in the training of bear hunting dogs or to otherwise engage in the pursuit of big game animals with the aid of a dog in the area between the dates of April 1'' and September 30th of each calendar year. 36 CFR 261.58(v).

MOTORIZED TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS/TRAIL CLOSURE (pdf)

The Restricted Area is in Oconto County, Wisconsin and includes the following townships, sections, and ranges:

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R § 261.55(6), and to provide for public safety and to ensure the integrity of the ANR Pipeline Company's high pressure natural gas pipeline, the following acts are prohibited on the National Forest System (NFS) lands on the Trail 55552, the Pipeline 4x4 Challenge Trail, on the Lakewood-Laona Ranger District ofthe Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest described in detail below and shown on the attached map incorporated into this Order as Exhibit A ("Restricted Area"):

  1. Entering or using locations in Exhibit A using a motorized vehicle other than a snowmobile. 36 C.F.R. § 261.SS(b)

MOUNTAIN FIRE TOWER AREA

The following acts are prohibited at the MOUNTAIN FIRE TOWER and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Oconto County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: The area from the junction of Forest Road 2106 and Forest Road 2335, running southeast on or within 300 feet either side of the center of Forest Road 2335; and a 300 foot radius around the Mountain Fire Tower; located in Section 35, T32N RL6E (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit M):

  1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
  2. Camping is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(e).
  3. Being in the area after sundown or before sunrise. 36 CFR 261.58(1),

NELLIGAN LAKE AREA

The following acts are prohibited at the NELLIGAN LAKE and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Oconto, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: National Forest lands on the northwest shore of Nelligan Lake, at the public boat ramp at the terminus of Forest Road 2272, located in portions of Section 27, T32N R17E (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit N):

  1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
  2. Camping is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(e).

NORTHERN GREAT LAKES VISITOR CENTER

The following acts are prohibited at the NORTHERN GREAT LAKES VISITOR CENTER and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Bayfield County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: Only those National Forest System lands appertaining to the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, approximately 180 acres in total, located in Bayfield County, Wisconsin, approximately 2 miles west of Ashland, Wisconsin, west and northwest of the intersection of State Highways 2 and 13; the legal location being portions of Township 48 North, Range 5 West, SW ¼ SE ¼, Section 35 and portions of the Township 47 North, Range 5 West, NW ¼, NW ¼ NE ¼, and NW ¼ SW ¼, Section 2 (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit O):

  1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire or charcoal fire outside of a fire ring or barbeque grill provided by the Forest Service for such purpose is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
  2. Camping except during authorized special events is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(e).
  3. Being in the area between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. except during authorized special events, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(u).
  4. Parking or leaving a vehicle in violation of posted instructions is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(g).
  5. Discharging a firearm except during authorized special events is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(m).
  6. Hunting or trapping is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(v).
  7. Fishing except during authorized special events is prohibited (applies to impoundments only; not intended to restrict fishing on Fish Creek). 36 CFR 261.58(v).
  8. Riding, hitching, tethering or hobbling a horse or other saddle or pack animal except during authorized special events is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(aa).

OLD LAKEWOOD LANDFILL (pdf)

AFFECTED AREA: That portion of the Lakewood/Laona Ranger District, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, located at Township 33 North, Range 16 East, North ½ of the Northwest ¼ Section 29; west of Forest Road 2341 (the North Road), in the vicinity of Lakewood, Oconto County, Wisconsin (see Vicinity Map, Exhibit A).

  1. It is prohibited to go into or be upon the area on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of each week. 36 CFR 261.53{f).
  2. It is prohibited to be in the area after sundown or before sunrise. 36 CFR 261.58(1).

ROAD AND AREA CLOSURE ON NATIONAL FOREST SYSTEM LANDS (pdf)

Camping in any recreation site on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest listed in Attachment A and shown on the attached map. (36 CFR 261.58(e))

Use of a motorized vehicle on any Forest Service Road or within any of the recreation sites on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest listed in Attachment A and/or shown on the attached map. (36 CFR 261.54(a))

Entering or using any of the recreation sites or a portion thereof on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest listed in Attachment A and shown on the attached map that are not being maintained and are closed for public health and safety reasons. This includes vault toilets, trash containers and fire rings. (36 CFR 261.53(e) and 36 CFR 261.58(b))

Being on any designated trail or a portion thereof on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest listed in Attachment A and/or shown on the attached map that are not being maintained and are closed for public health and safety reasons. (36 CFR 261.55(a))

ROSE LAKE AREA

Area Description: National Forest lands located on the island at the west end of Rose Lake, located in NW 1/4 of the NE 1/4, Section 27, T32N R14E (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit P):

  1. Going into or being upon the island is prohibited between May 1st and June 30" of each calendar year. 36 CFR 261.53(a).

TRAVERS LAKE AREA

The following acts are prohibited at TRAVERS LAKE and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Bayfield County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: National Forest iands adjacent to the shoreline of Travers Lake, located in portions of Sections 6 and 7, T45N R8W (See Vicinity Map, Exhibit Q):

  1. Camping is prohibited within 100 feet of the water's edge. 36 CFR 261.58(e).

HORSESHOE LAKE CAMP GROUND AND TRAIL SYSTEM

The following acts are prohibited at HORSESHOE LAKE CAMPGROUND AND TRAIL SYSTEM and the National Forest System lands adjacent thereto, located in Bayfield County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Area Description: National Forest lands adjacent to Horseshoe Lake Campground located in portions of Sections 6, 7, 8, 17, 18 and 19, T48N R6W and Sections 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14, T48N R7W.

  1. Hitching, tethering, or hobbling a horse or other pack animal to other than established hitching posts. 36 CFR 261.58(aa).
  2. Tying stock within reach of any living tree within the horse camp. 36 CFR 261.58 (aa)
  3. Possessing or riding any horse or other saddle or pack animal within 300 feet of Horseshoe Lake. 36 CFR 261.58(aa)
  4. Possessing or using a motorized vehicle on the Horseshoe Lake designated trail system. 36 CFR 261.55(b).

VALKYRIE AND TEUTON CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAIL SYSTEMS

The following acts are prohibited on the Valkyrie and Teuton Cross Country Ski Trail systems and National Forest lands adjacent thereto, located in Bayfield County, Wisconsin, on the Chequamegon- Nicolet national Forest.

Area Description: National Forest lands adjacent to Vaikyrie and Teuton Cross Country Ski Trail Systems located in portions of Sections 12 and 13, T49N R6W and Sections 7 and 18, T49N R5W.

  1. It is prohibited to be on a trail with a dog. 36 CFR 261.55(a).

WILDERNESS AREAS

The following acts are prohibited in the BLACKJACK SPRINGS WILDERNESS AREA in Vilas County, Wisconsin; the HEADWATERS WILDERNESS AREA in Forest County, Wisconsin; the PORCUPINE LAKE WILDERNESS AREA in Bayfield County, Wisconsin; the RAINBOW LAKE WILDERNESS AREA in Bayfield County, Wisconsin; and the WHISKER LAKE WILDERNESS AREA in Florence County, Wisconsin.

  1. Storing equipment, personal property, or supplies not being used in conjunction with a current visit, within a National Forest Wilderness, without a permit, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.57(f).
  2. Disposing of debris, garbage, or other waste within a National Forest Wilderness, except that burnable waste which is disposed of by fire, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.57(g).
  3. Possessing or using a wagon, cart or other vehicle is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.57(h).
  4. Camping in a National Forest Wilderness Area for longer than 14 consecutive days, unless otherwise posted, is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(a).
  5. Using any wheel, roller, or other mechanical device for the overland transportation of any watercraft is prohibited. 36 CFR 261.58(x).

SUPPLEMENTAL DEFINITIONS

For the purpose of this Order, bear baiting is defined as: The placing of any food product, scent product, refuse or offal in order to attract black bears or otherwise affect black bear behavior.

For the purpose of this Order, camping is defined as: Overnight occupancy of National Forest System lands, whether by persons or their camping equipment and other personal property, for the period specified. For the purpose of defining length-of-stay limits at a developed recreation site (Prohibition No. I), the following shall apply: Once the party has occupied a site for 14 consecutive days, they must remove themselves and their personal property entirely from that campground or other developed recreation area for a period of not less than 72 hours. For the purpose of defining length- of-stay limits at any other location (Prohibition No. 2), the following shall apply: Once the party has occupied a site for 21 consecutive days, they must remove themselves and their personal property entirely from that site for a distance of not less than 1mile and for a period of not less than 7 days.

For the purpose of this Order and application of WI 346.935, National Forest System Road is defined as: A forest road other than a road which has been authorized by a legally documented right-of-way held by the state, county, or other local public road authority.

THESE RESTRICTIONS ARE IN ADDITION TO THE GENERAL PROHIBITIONS FOUND AT 36 CFR PART 261, SUBPART A. AND WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT FROM THE DATE OF THIS ORDER UNTIL TERMINATED OR RESCINDED BY THE FOREST SUPERVISOR.

THIS ORDER SUPERSEDES AND RESCINDS FOREST ORDER R9 13060 1.

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 (e), the following persons are exempt from this order:

  1. Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
  2. Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of any organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual, or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. [16 USC g 551, 18 USC 05 3559 and 35711.
