Passes & Discounts at Black Hills National Forest Recreation Facilities

Developed campgrounds and many day-use areas are operated by Forest Recreation Management (FRM) under permit from the Black Hills National Forest. Their dates of operation are typically mid-May through mid-September of each year.  During this time, campers and visitors to these sites receive a 50% discount on campsite fees and day-use fees if a member of the party has an Interagency Lifetime Senior Pass, Interagency Annual Senior Pass, or Interagency Access Pass.  These are the only three passes within the America the Beautiful Pass Program that are accepted by FRM during the summer season. (See also: Seasonal Recreation Pass for Black Hills National Forest Facilities)

Camping Site Discount – If a member of the camping party has one of the three passes noted above, the campsite for this pass holder is half-price.  The pass does not cover any additional camping sites and/or fees by other party members.

Day-Use Discount – If a member of the party visiting a day-use site has one of the three passes noted above, the day-use fee for the vehicle with the pass holder is half price.  The pass does not cover any additional vehicles.

If you have further questions related to developed recreation sites that accept these passes during the summer season, please contact FRM directly at (605) 574-4402 or fstrecmgt@aol.com.

NOTE: The America the Beautiful Pass Program offers multiple passes for public lands enthusiasts.  Combined together, the program offers a suite of annual and lifetime passes that provides U.S. citizens and visitors an affordable and convenient way to access Federal recreation lands. Up to 100% of the Pass program's proceeds are used to improve and enhance visitor recreation services.  For more information or answers to common questions, please visit the online USGS Store.
