Wildland Fire Explorers


A program for young men and women to explore a career in wildland firefighting.

The Angeles National Forest has three Wildland Fire Explorers Posts that meet weekly and an Explorer Academy that takes places once a year. We are located in areas to serve all communities in Los Angeles County.

You can join one of the Explorer Posts or all three of them at no additional cost.

Our Explorers has a high success rate of employment in the fire service.

Explorer Posts Meetings

  • Year-round weekly meetings
  • Focuses on training & teaching techniques used in wildland firefighting, investigation, fire science, prevention, and much more
  • Prepares the explorers to attend the annual Wildland Fire Explorer Academy

Approx. 4,000+ young men and women have been trained by the Angeles Explorer program.

  • ​For ages 16-21
  • Includes Angeles National Forest Explorers and Explorers from other fire agencies
  • Four consecutive weekends from Fridays - Sundays
  • Graduating Explorers will be certified to become wildland firefighters
