GPS Receiver Testing Reports
Reports of GPS Receiver Accuracy tests made under tree canopy
at 2 sites. Tests were made under eastern hardwood forests
at the Ridley Creek, Pennsylvania test network and under
western conifer forests at the Clackamas River, Oregon test
network. The Trimble GeoXT, Trimble Pocket GPS, and the Garmin
GPSMAP 76 GPS receivers were tested using National Standard
for Spatial Data Accuracy testing procedures.

DRAFT Forest Service GPS Data Accuracy Standard Paper
The GPS Data Accuracy Standard provides direction on matching
GPS equipment and field procedures to the various GIS accuracy
requirements of the agency. The Standard is intended to provide
agency direction for testing and reporting GPS accuracy in
a consistent and statistically meaningful way. It is based
on a review of past agency and federal accuracy standards
with the intent of providing direction that is consistent
with current federal standards.

Standards and Guidelines for Cadastral Surveys Using GPS Methods
The latest March 21, 2001 DRAFT of these STANDARDS and GUIDELINES
has just been completed.
These Standards and Guidelines provide guidance to the Government
cadastral surveyor and other land surveyors in the use of
Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to perform Public
Land Survey System (PLSS) surveys of the Public Lands of
the United States of America.

Missoula Technology Development Center (MTDC) GPS Receiver
Comparison
Dick Karsky of the MTDC has released a draft of the paper "Comparison
of GPS Receivers Under Forest Canopy with Selective Availability
Off". This paper compares the accuracy performance of
various mapping and recreational grade GPS receivers under
forest canopy.
Pacific Northwest Region and MTDC Receiver Reports
Drafts of four reports on GPS receiver performance and accuracy
under Western Oregon tree canopy by Santiago Mancebo and
Ken Chamberlain are now available. These reports cover the
Trimble ProXR and GeoExplorer 3, four models of recreational
type GPS receivers manufactured by Garmin and Magellan, and
the Rockwell PLGR P(y) code receiver. The receiver tests
were made at the Clackamas
Test Network in Western Oregon.
