Wildland Fire Chemical Systems
The WFCS program evaluates all wildland fire chemical products before qualifying them for use by Federal wildland firefighting agencies. WFCS compiles technical information acquired during fire chemical product evaluations and provides that information (e.g., product information sheets) that is useful to employees in the field and to the general public.
These evaluations include tests to determine
- Uniform and intergranular corrosion
- Product stability
- Fire-retarding effectiveness
- Physical parameters
- Mammalian toxicity
- Aquatic toxicity
- Human health and ecological risk assessments
Aerial Delivery Systems
ADS evaluates fixed-wing and helicopter delivery systems using drop tests and static testing to ensure conformity with performance criteria and to validate performance models. ADS also produces a series of drop guides to help users determine optimum performance of these delivery systems in various fire conditions.
