Deadman Canyon Trailhead

Located near Fish Lake Campground, Deadman Canyon Trailhead is a moderately used access point into the southeast side of the Eagle Cap Wilderness and Wallowa Mountains. The site has horse loading and holding facilities, and a day use area. Access to Deadman Trail #1869.

Permit Info: All visitors to the Eagle Cap Wilderness must obtain a Wilderness Visitor Permit before entering the area. Only one permit is required per group and there is no fee for the permits. Registration and Permit boxes are located at each trailhead near the information board. The permits are self-issued.

General Information

Directions:

From Halfway, Oregon travel north on the Cornucopia Highway to the Fish Lake Road and take a right; On the Fish Lake Road go 3.5 miles to the Clear Creek Road and turn left; Travel 16.5 miles on the Clear Creek Road (becomes Forest Road 66) and past the Fish Lake Campground road turnoff to Forest Road 410; Turn left on Forest Road 410 and go about 0.3 miles to the end of this road. The trailhead has upper and lower parking areas.

To get to Halfway from Baker City, Oregon travel north on Interstate 84 for about 1.5 miles and turn east on State Highway 86 and travel 54 miles to Halfway.
