Indian Creek Rifle Range


Area Status: Open

Indian Creek is ADA accessible, with paved paths to targets and accommodates targets at 25 and 100-yard intervals.

Annual and daily passes for using the Enoree rifle ranges are available on recreation.gov.   

At a Glance

Operational Hours: All year, dawn to dusk, except for weekly cleaning schedule closed times.
Fees:
  • 2019 Fee Increase Q & A's
  • Shooters under the age of 16 is free but must be accompanied by an adult and must provide identification, if asked.
  • No Golden Age Passport and America the Beautiful Interagency Pass discount.
  • Daily pass is $5 per user. Annual Shooting Range Pass is $50 per calendar year. The Annual Shooting Range Pass is honored at all ranges on the Enoree and Long Cane Districts.
  • Annual passes and daily fees can be paid through recreation.gov.
Permit Info:
  • While shooting, your valid daily or annual permit must be displayed. Clip permit on post at shooting table,
  • Permits are non-transferable and non-refundable.
  • Daily permits can only be purchased on site.
  • Annual permits can only be purchased off site.
Restrictions:
  • Refer to the Forest Supervisor's orders for prohibited actions on all rifle ranges on the forest.
  • Tracer or Incendiary ammunition or exploding targets is prohibited.
  • Pack it in, pack it out. Shooters are responsible for own cleanup of all bullet casings, target and target holder, litter-trash. This includes all pieces of stationary, biodegradable skeet being used as a target. (Ranges will continue to be closed for use when they become trashed by non-caring shooters. They will be reopened only when people are willing to help volunteer with cleanup efforts)
Passes:
  • Annual Shooting Range Passes are available for purchase at the Enoree, Long Cane, and Supervisor's Offices. 
  • Purchase through the mail by downloading the forms, keep a copy of the rules and regulations for your information, and fill out the Rifle Range Annual Special Recreation Permit form and mail with payment to the district office of the range that will be primarily used.  Click here to print forms
Information Center: Cleaning Schedule: The rifle ranges on the Enoree Ranger District close during the following times:
Indian Creek and Leeds rifle ranges are closed Mon. & Thurs. 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Philson Crossroads and Fairforest rifle ranges are closed Tues. and Fri. 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

General Information

Directions:

Indian Creek Rifle Range from I-26 and Hwy 121 in Newberry County (exit 72 off interstate): drive north 6.6 miles. Rifle range is on the right just after crossing bridge over Indian Creek. If you miss your turn drive north and at the top of the hill is the Enoree Ranger District Office where you can safely turn around and go back. Use caution on this road. Give ample time to signal, stop and turn; a lot of tractor trailers travel this road.

General Notes:

Best practices for using the rifle range:

  • Keep the rifle range free of litter.
  • Only stationary paper or manufactured targets mounted on self-provided stands or holders. Using bottles, cans, pumpkins, watermelons etc. or other trash as targets is prohibited.
  • Targets and target holders must be positioned at the base of the berm, to catch all bullets and eliminate the chance of ricochet. 
  • Use eye and ear protection.
  • Follow the four rules of gun safety:
    • Treat all guns as if they are loaded
    • Control your muzzle: Keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction
    • Be sure of your target and what is beyond.
    • Keep your finger outside of the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot.

Activities

Target Shooting

  • All ranges are ADA Accessible with one ADA table and 100 yard concrete walkway downrange.
  • All ranges have one ADA Accessible shooting table and five tables with left and right side shooting benches under a covered shelter.
  • All ranges have berms located down range. Distances from shooting tables to berms vary with the maximum distance being 100 yards.
  • There are no restrooms or water available at any of the ranges.
