Coal Creek Trail #1394 is 4.9 mile non-motorized difficult rated trail that is not maintained or well defined. Skills in backcountry map reading and orienteering are necessary. This trail is accessed from the North Fork Trailhead on FSR #436, follow North Fork Trail #1309 for 1 mile to the junction/intersection of the Wildcat Trail #1312, then travel 0.75 mile to Coal Creek Trail. The intersections/junctions are unmarked and obscure.

Directions:

Access from LaVeta, take State Highway 12 south to FDR #422, then travel 4 miles to the Blue Lake campground entrance, turn left onto FDR #436 then travel 1.5 mile to the North Fork Trailhead. FDR #436 requires four-wheel drive vehicles. Travel North Fork Trail 1 mile to the junction/intersection of the Wildcat Trail, then travel 0.75 mile to Coal Creek Trail.

Another access from LaVeta, take State Highway 12 for 25 miles south to County Road 34. Travel 5 miles to Purgatoire Campground. In the campground, turn into the North Fork Trailhead parking lot. Travel the North Fork Trail #1309 approximately 3.5 miles to the junction of the Wildcat Trail #1312; travel Wildcat for 0.75 mile to junction of Coal Creek Trail #1394. The intersections/junctions are unmarked and obscure. These trails are open to nonmotorized travel.
