Bent Creek Experimental Forest


Area Status: Open

Established in 1927 to study rehabilitation of cutover, degraded forests, Bent Creek is the oldest experimental forest in the East. The area is now used to research current issues that threaten or enhance the health and productivity of forests.

Directions:

From the Asheville Supervisor's Office: I 26 East to Exit 33 to enter Hwy. 191 South (Brevard Hwy.).  Go south on Hwy. 191 to Bent Creek Road (left at traffic signal).  Follow signs to NC Arboretum and Lake Powhatan Recreation Area.
