Wild Cattle Hollow Trail
The Wild Cattle Hollow Trail #5401 is 4.0 miles long. It begins at Forest Trail #5348 and ends at Forest Road #50250. The trail is located along the bottom and east slope of Wild Cattle Hollow. It climbs 1,706 feet from 7,929 feet in elevation to Gentry Mountain (9,635 feet). The trail climbs from spruce fir habitat into douglas fir/aspen type, and then passes into aspen and meadows. The final mile and a half passes primarily through open sagebrush and rabbitbrush. Sections in the lower canyon contain 2 to 3 foot ledges that are difficult for horse or bicycles to traverse. The trail is very scenic in the ledge section and provides excellent views into Wild Cattle Hollow. It is possible to travel up this trail and then return to the trailhead via Gentry Hollow Trail #5348 by including a 2.5 mile connection using Forest Roads #50250 and #50251. A loop trip with these two trails would be approximately 11.5 miles in length.
