Trout Farm Campground

Trout Farm Campground offers opportunities for picnicking, pond/stream fishing, and hunting. This nice little campground is ideal for families, or the fishing enthusiast.  This campground offers a nice  pond for fishing with an barrier free path along the pond as well as a barrier free pier.  Trout Farm Campground also has a newly renovated covered picnick shelter and running water.  A great place to visit near the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness.

Public should be aware warmer weather can bring blue-green algae blooms to lakes. Please read the attached information for what to look for and what to do should you encounter a blue-green algae bloom.

Current Conditions: Water is on for the season. Visitors should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions. Pack it in/Pack it out. Anything take home anything you bring with you into the forest, including all trash. Examples of trash: cigarette butts, cans, bottles, and food.

General Information

Directions:

From the town of Prairie City, OR., turn onto South Main Street.  Follow South Main Street to the junction with Bridge Street.  Turn left onto Bridge Street and continue past the local cemetary.  The road then changes to County Road 62.  Later continue on County Road 62 approximately 13 miles, the Trout Farm campground will be on the right. 


Parking:

There is plenty of parking at the campground for day use visitors to park and enjoy the pond. 


General Notes:

Drinking water is available only during warmer months; water will be shut off from early to mid-October until mid to late May or early June depending on temperatures.

Campground Camping

The Trout Farm Campground is an excellent place for families to enjoy a quiet place to fish, hike, and explore the forest.  Visitors will find the easily reached campground set amongst ponderosa pine trees a relaxing place to escape to.

Lake and Pond Fishing

A barrier free fishing platform sets on the edge of the stocked pond inside the campground.  For regulation and license information on fishing please visit the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife

River and Stream Fishing

Anglers can put a line in at the pond or along the stream that feeds the pond.  Rainbow Trout are caught in the stream, Bull Trout are also found in the stream.  If a Bull Trout is caught please release it back into the stream as this fish is ESA Threatened.  For more fishing regulation and license information please visit the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Day Hiking

Trout Farm Trail #370 travels around the pond.  The trail is 0.5 miles in length allowing visitors the chance to walk around the pond.  Half of the trail is asphalt, the asphalt ends at a nice picnic area with extended length picnic table and compacted gravel pad.  The trail then narrows and is compacted gravel the rest of the way around.

Picnicking

Multiple sites are available to those wishing to enjoy a day of fishing without camping.  4 picnic sites with extended length picnic tables and compacted gravel pads make a wonderful place to enjoy a nice picnic lunch near the pond set amongst beautiful ponderosa pine trees.

There is also a beautiful covered picnic area with concrete pad and extended length picnic tables that can accomodate a larger group function.

This campground offers 4 picnic sites and a picnic shelter that are level and accessible.
