Camp along the shores of Lake Superior - "By the shores of Gitche Gumee, by the Shining Big-Sea-Waters" - the greatest single body of fresh water in the world. 

Miles of sandy beach and beautiful sunsets across Lake Superior are yours to enjoy at Bay View Campground. Twenty-five campsites are available with picnic tables and fire rings at each site. 

 

Experience Nature at Bay View Campground

After a fun day of hiking, swimming, boating, biking, or fishing for trout or salmon, relax and take in all nature has to offer as the early explorers once did. In the evening, listen for the woeful cry of a loon or the towering red and white pine, oak, maple, and white birch trees as the wind rustles the leaves. View a  map of available campsites, or make a reservation for Bay View Campground.

General Information

Directions:

From the intersection of M-28 and Interstate 75 drive west on M-28 15.6 miles to Ranger Road. Turn right (north) and drive 6.2 miles to Lake Shore Drive. Turn left (southwest) and drive 1.8 miles to the campground.

Activities

Campground Camping

There are 25 campsites settled beneath red and white pine, oak, maple, and white birch trees, and just a few steps from the sandy beach.

  • Tables and fire rings are at each site.
  • Drinking water and toilets are conveniently spaced throughout the campground.
  • Bay View Campground has a camp host during the summer months.

Lake and Pond Fishing

Fishing for lake trout and salmon is available at the mouth of numerous rivers and creeks which are bridged by Lake Shore Drive. Ample parking is provided. Boat launch and carry-in access are clearly marked.

Picnicking

Big Pine picnic area is located 1 mile east of Bay View Campground, and is ideal for larger groups of daytime visitors.

Swimming

The sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing, wading, and swimming. The waters of Lake Superior can be cold. Swimming is at your own risk. Lifeguards are not present. Children should be accompanied in the water by an adult at all times.
