General Information

Directions:

21 miles north of Mimbres, NM on the south side of New Mexico Highway 35 between mile markers 22 and 23.


General Notes:

There are fire grills, picnic tables, garbage facilities and restrooms. For campfires, you can pick up dead wood lying nearby. Please do not cut any trees.  Wood may not be removed from the campground. Drinking water system is shut off (January 26, 2024) due to frozen water pipe and damage.

Closest Stores:
Lake Roberts General Store on north side of Lake Roberts. Phone and lodging, (Lake Roberts Cabins) available. No fishing licenses available. Licenses available at Walmart in Silver City.

Campground Camping

RV Camping

There are two sites that can accommodate RVs in the 40-45' length.  The rest of the sites are limited to maximum length of 32'.  Self-contained only, no hook-ups are available.

Lake and Pond Fishing

There are rainbow trout and catfish in the lake.  Fishing licenses are required and more information is available at NM Department of Game and Fish.

Day Hiking

Lake Roberts - Trail #801 begins at the western end of the campground and runs roughly 1.75 miles to the Lake Roberts Boat Launch.

Purgatory - Trail #779 (a 2.1 mile loop) is located across from Lake Roberts picnic area. For safety reasons, please stay out of the canyon during periods of heavy rain. Carry drinking water.

Great area for birdwatching and deer frequent the area. Javelina have also been seen in the area.

Small boats with electric trolling motors are welcome.  Swimming in Lake Roberts is not permitted.
