Sheltowee Trace Trail #100 Section 9


Area Status: Open

Section 9 of the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail begins at the Cumberland District office on KY 801 at Cave Run Lake and ends at the Clear Creek Lake trailhead. It is popular with many trail users because of its close proximity to Cave Run Lake and connections to other trails. 

KY 801 to Clear Creek Campground. Travels west along KY 801 and then turns south on KY 826, crossing the dam and then down to Stoney Cove Picnic area. Day-use parking for vehicles and horse trailers at Stoney Cove or Clear Creek. Borders the Pioneer Weapons Wildlife Management Area to the east. Horses must stay on marked route through emergency spillway. Trail Difficulty Level: More Difficult.

 Horse use and hiking are permitted. Mountain biking and motorized use are not permitted. Closed to horse use from Dec. 16 to May 14.

Directions:

From I-64, take exit 133 and go south on KY 801, across US 60 and then 2.5 miles to the Cumberland Ranger District Visitor Center on the right.


Parking:

Parking is available at the Visitors Center on KY 801, at Stoney Cove Picnic Area on KY 826 and Clear Creek Picnic Area.
