Vehicle access from Angeles Crest Highway 2 is CLOSED east of Redbox to west of Upper Big Tunjunga.

The Burkhart Trail (a segment of the High Desert National Recreation Trail) is 11.3 miles long. It begins at Burkhart Trailhead in Buckhorn Campground and ends at Cruthers Creek. The trail is for horseback-riding ad hiking only.

Access from Hwy 2 through Buckhorn Campground is closed. Alternate access is further west from Cloudburst Summit/PCT Trailhead to the Cooper Canyon Trail Camp. To hike from Devil's Punchbowl area of the trail, follow the same route to Burkhart Saddle, then head south to Buckhorn Campground or southwest to Cloudburst Summit.
