Standing Indian Campground

Standing Indian Campground is a camper's delight, whether you're camping in an RV or in a tent. The campground is surrounded by 5,000-foot peaks and crossed by several natural trout streams. It is the focal point of numerous hiking trails and has easy access to the Appalachain Trail. The campground can be a pleasant stopover on your trip or a place to spend several days to explore this scenic and historic section of the Nantahala National Forest. All this within a scenic, 20-minute drive to Frankliln, N.C. The campground has 5 loops with sites available first come, first serve or by reservation. Fire ring grills, lantern posts, and picnic tables are provided at each site, with close proximity to drinking water, flush toilets and showers. A group camping area, Kimsey Creek, is located in Standing Indian Campground.

Discounts are available to America the Beautiful Access and Senior Pass holders.  You can purchase passes online at USGS Store.

Camping is limited to a 14 day stay. Parking in grass is prohibited. Pets must be on a leash and cleaned up after.  No golf carts allowed.  Horses are not permitted in the campground or on hiking trails. Hurricane Creek Horse & Primitive Campground and access to horse trails is available 2 miles away on FS 67. Firewood may be purchases at the campground store and delivered to your site.  Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Single Site: $20 per night, Double Site: $40 per night Double sites are: 10/11, 17/18, 36/37, 44/45, 55/56, and 62/63

From Franklin, North Carolina, take U.S. Highway 64 west approximately 12 miles, passing through Winding Stair Gap. Near the bottom of the mountain from the gap, turn left on West Old Murphy Road (State Route 1448) and watch for a directional sign for the campground. Go 1.9 miles and turn right on Forest Road 67 at the Standing Indian Campground sign. This is a paved road. Go 1.7 miles and turn right into the campground
