  • Paint Rock Closure

    Effective through May 1, 2035, certain National Forest System lands in the Paint Rock area, located on the Appalachian Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest and the Unaka Ranger District of Cherokee National Forest, will be closed to protect cultural resources.

    This closure is intended to prevent vandalism and degradation of the Paint Rock area. 

    Closure details include: 

    -In North Carolina: Approximately 9 acres north of River Road (SR1304)

    -In Tennessee: Approximately 11 acres between the French Broad River and the Paint Rock Trail. 

    These areas are separated by Paint Creek, NFSR #41 and NFSR #54.
