Union Creek Picnic Area

Located within the Union Creek Recreation Area, the Union Creek Picnic Area is set in a mature pine forest overlooking Phillips Lake. Popular activities include group picnics, day hiking along the lake shore, fishing, and boating. The recreation area also includes the Union Creek Campground and Union Creek Boat Launch.

Day use only; no overnight camping allowed

General rules of use and restrictions apply for this developed recreation site. The Recreation Site Concessionaire also has rules of use posted at the site. The gate into the recreation area is locked when not in operation by the concessionaire.

2018 Day-Use Fees
  • Day-use vehicles = $6
Discounts are subject to the terms of the passes, and policies of the Concession operator. For visitors with an Interagency Senior Passes, Interagency Access Passes, Golden Age Passport or Golden Access Passport the discount fees are:
  • Day-use vehicles = $3
  • Day-use vehicles with Interagency Military passes = free
Day-use fees are posted at the Union Creek Recreation Area entrance booth.

Directions

From Baker City, Oregon travel south on Highway 7 towards John Day, Oregon for about 18 miles; The campground and day-use entrance is signed on the left side of the road; Follow the signs in the Union Creek Recreation Area down through the campground tpast the boat launch to the picnic area.
