Ochoco Mountain Trail (#823)
The Ochoco Mountain Trail can be accessed from Cottonwood Trailhead, Mascall Corral Trailhead and Rock Creek Trailhead.
The trail parallels ridge routes followed by the historic Mascal Stock Driveway and the Paulina-Dayville Wagon Road (Apple Road).
This route travels through open grass and shrubland, with a mixed conifer forest. Most grades are moderate, with some steep sections.

West Trailhead:
From Paulina, Oregon:
Continue east on Paulina-Suplee Highway for 3.5 miles to Beaver Creek Road.
Turn north (left) onto Beaver Creek Road and go 7.5 miles to Forest Service Road 42.
Follow Forest Service Road 42 for 1.5 miles to Forest Service Road 3810.
Take Forest Service Road 3810 for 6.5 miles to Forest Service Road 38.
Turn east (right) onto Forest Service Road 38, following it 4 miles to Forest Service Road 3820.
Take Forest Service Road 3820 and go 2 miles to the unmarked trailhead at Mascall Corrals (historic site of sheep sorting pens that are no longer in existence). Roadside parking is available.
East Trailhead:
From Paulina, Oregon:
Travel 13 miles northeast toward Sugar Creek Campground on Forest Service Road 58.
Turn north (left) at the Sugar Creek Day Use Area onto Forest Service Road 5810.
Travel 10.5 miles on Forest Service Road 5810 to Forest Service Road 38.
Turn east (right) onto Forest Service Road 38 for 2.5 miles to Forest Service Road 3850.
Turn north (left) onto Forest Service Road 3850 and follow it for 3 miles to the unmarked trailhead.
CAUTION: Forest Service Road 3850 is a primitive road that is not suitable for trailers or low-clearance vehicles. There is limited turnaround and parking space at the trailhead, and the road may not be passable with 4x4s in wet conditions.
Middle Trailhead:
From Paulina, Oregon:
Travel 13 miles northeast toward Sugar Creek Campground on Forest Service Road 58.
Turn north (left) at the Sugar Creek Day Use Area onto Forest Service Road 5810.
Travel 10.5 miles on Forest Service Road 5810 to Forest Service Road 38.
Proceed directly across the four-way intersection onto Forest Service Road 3800-200, and follow it 3.5 miles to the crossing of Trail #817 which is marked with a rock cairn.
CAUTION: Forest Service Road 3800-200 is a primitive road and is not suitable for trailers or low-clearance vehicles. Road may not be passable with 4x4s in wet conditions.
