Crater Butte Trailhead

The Crater Butte Trailhead provides parking and access to the Diamond Peak Wilderness via the Crater Butte Trail #44.

General Information

Day use only; no overnight camping allowed

The trail enters the Diamond Peak Wilderness shortly after leaving the trailhead. Wilderness permits are required for both day use and overnight stays from June 15 through October 15. Free permits are self-issued at the trailhead.

  • Wilderness restrictions apply
  • Motorized and mechanical equipment (including bicycles and drones) are prohibited in the wilderness.
  • Groups must be under 12 people and 12 head of stock.
  • Build campfires at least 100 feet away from water.
  • Pack in / Pack out!
  • “Take only pictures, leave only footprints”—please refrain from cutting, damaging or gathering vegetation or other forest items, i.e. rocks, etc.
  • Please bury human waste 6-8” deep and at least 200’ away from water.

Directions

From Crescent, OR: Travel 12.2 miles west on County Road 61/Crescent Cut-off Road, then 5.4 miles north on Highway 58, then turn left onto east Odell Lake Road/Forest Service Road 680 for approximately .10 of a mile, then follow the signs.
