Wyeth Trail (#411)
Beginning in Wyeth Campground in the Columbia River Gorge, follow the trail 200 feet south and turn left at the intersection with the Gorge Trail #400. As you ascend through unburned stands of forest, the trail enters Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness after about a mile and continues into the Eagle Creek Fire scar, providing views of Mount St. Helens to the north. After approximately 4.5 miles within the National Scenic Area's boundaries, the trail crosses into Mt. Hood National Forest and allows access to other trails and lakes, including Mount Defiance Trail #413 and North and Rainy Lakes.
The Eagle Creek Fire of 2017 dramatically affected the trail, with widespread loss of trees, numerous landslides, and an increase in dense underbrush. As in any wildfire scar, know the weather forecasts, be alert for hazards, and be prepared with the 10 Essentials.
