  • Garnet Fire Closure Update 05-15-52-25-13

The Sierra National Forest has issued Forest Order, No. 05-15-52-25-13. Thanks to the ongoing suppression efforts in cooperation with local cooperators, aviation support, and SNF Fire Crews, the Garnet Fire is now 91% contained allowing for a reduction of the Garnet Fire closure area. The reduction of the closure order was coordinated with multiple local, state, and federal agency cooperators, including the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) to identify the minimum area necessary for the safety of firefighters, resources, and forest visitors. The order aligns more closely with current FCSO evacuation orders and warning areas and supersedes the previous Forest Order, No. 05-15-52-25-12.

Rifle hunting for Deer in Zone D-7 will begin on Saturday, September 20, and includes Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, and Tulare counties. Most of Zone D-7 is open for rifle hunting, and the revised forest closure order opens an additional 47,000 acres of public lands on the Sierra National Forest. However, the following areas remain closed:

The modified Garnet Fire Closure Area, including all affected roads and trails, along with McKinley Grove Road, remain closed due to fire suppression, repair, and fire crews working in these areas. The Dinkey Creek campground is also closed for the season.
