Luther Pass Campground

Luther Pass Campground is a primitive, backcountry campground located on Highway 89 approximately 16 miles south of the City of South Lake Tahoe. This campground is free and has a five-day stay limit (per season) with 11 campsites that can be used on a first-come, first served basis with no reservations and limited amenities including vault restrooms and a dumpster.
Camping is permitted only in designated spots. Campfires (wood, charcoal or any other solid fuels) only permitted within permanent, iron fire rings when the campground is open and as long as enhanced fire restrictions are not in effect.
Luther Pass Campground is just up the road from Big Meadow Trailhead, a parking area for backpackers and hikers doing part or all of the Tahoe Rim Trail. Visit the Tahoe Rim Trail website for more information.

Summers are typically warm and dry, though nighttime temperatures can be cold and afternoon thundershowers often build over the mountains. Snow is possible during any month of the year. Be prepared for changeable weather and bring clothing that will keep you warm and dry.
