Meyers Landfill Area Closure

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. §§ 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), and to provide for public safety, the following act is prohibited within the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. This Order is effective from April 9th, 2025 through April 9th, 2028.

  1. Going into or being upon Forest Service Lands within the Meyers Landfill Closure Area. The Meyers Landfill Closure Area boundary begins on Forest Road No. 1204 (Old Meyers Landfill Road) at a point 1900 feet northeast of its intersection with Pioneer Trail, then continues due east approximately 2400 feet, then continues northward along Saxon Creek for approximately 2000 feet, then continues westward along the private property boundary fence line to its intersection with Forest Road No. 1204 (Old Meyers Landfill Road), then continues southward along Forest Road No. 1204 (Old Meyers Landfill Road) back to the starting point, as shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R. § 261.53(e).

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 26 1.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

  1. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
     
  2. Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.
     
  3. Persons with a special use permit or contract from the Forest Service authorizing work specifically within the Meyers Landfill Closure Area their employees, sub-contractors, and agents are exempt from the prohibitions listed above to the extent authorized by the special use permit or contract.

This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A.

A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571 and 3581.
