Box Elder Trail #044
This is a wild and rugged 7.5-mile trail that travels to a seldom visited area of the Lone Peak Wilderness. The trail climbs steeply to circumnavigate Box Elder Peak, and then culminates at the Deer Creek-Dry Creek trail #043.

Wilderness Considerations: As with any Wilderness trails, please be prepared for trails that have received little to no maintenance; have a map and compass and know how to use them, and have the ability to be self-sufficient as these are truly some of the remotest areas in the Wasatch Mountains.

The Lone Peak Wilderness was established by Congress in 1977 with the purpose of keeping the area in a pristine state. In order to protect the resources of this special area, some regulations have been made:
- No mechanized or motorized equipment (including mountain bikes).
- Group size limit is 15 but 8 or less is recommended.
- No shortcutting trail switchbacks.
- Campfires and wood gathering for fires is discouraged.

Directions
From I-15, take Alpine Exit 284. you will be traveling east on State Road 92 for approximately 7 miles to the mouth of American Fork Canyon. This is a Recreation Fee Area and you can pay your fee at the booth. Continue on this road until you come to a fork in the road. Take the north fork, Highway 144 and you will come to Tibble Fork Reservoir. Travel past Tibble Fork on the paved road to Granite Flat Campground. the trailhead is located near the restroom in the Sandwagon Group Site. Parking is available on the left side of the road shortly after entering the campground or just outside the campground gate.
