Hazard Lakes Area, New Meadows Ranger District

From McCall, travel five miles west on Highway 55. Turn right on Goose Lake Road/Forest Road #257. Follow the paved road to Brundage Mountain Resort where the road turns to gravel and continue approximately 18 miles to Hazard Lake. This area is typically snow-free from late-July to October, when summer wildflowers are abundant.

Hazard Lake Campground sits on the shore of a scenic high mountain lake at 7,051 feet. A day use picnic area is also located next to the lake within the campground (no fee). Motorized use on Hazard Lake is limited by a “no wake” restriction and there is no boat ramp available, so lightweight, portable watercraft are recommended.

Big Hazard Lake, the largest of the three Hazard lakes, is accessed via a short, flat trail (#366) suitable for most people. It is not uncommon to see people carrying float tubes, canoes, and inflatable rafts to the lake to take advantage of the good fishing and quiet beauty.
