PROHIBITIONS
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 (a), the following acts are prohibited on the National Forest System (NFS) lands (“Restricted Area”) within the Powell Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest described below and shown on the attached map incorporated into this Order:
1. Camping in an undesignated area or site, 36 CFR 261.58(e)
2. Leaving camping equipment unattended for more than 24 hours in a designated area or site without permission of an authorized Forest Officer, 36 CFR 261.16 (i)
EXEMPTIONS
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e) the following persons are exempt from this Order:
1. Persons with a special use authorization or other Forest Service authorization specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
3. Federal or State administrative personnel in the performance of an official duty.
RESTRICTED AREA
The area affected by this order is described as portions of the East Fork of the Sevier River drainage located within ½ mile of the dam and shoreline of Tropic Reservoir and within ½ mile on both sides of the East Fork of the Sevier River south of Tropic Reservoir. (See attached map.)
PURPOSE
The purpose of this order is to protect soil, water, and vegetative resources from recreation impacts associated with camping near the East Fork of the Sevier River and associated riparian areas, and to provide greater recreation opportunities to more members of the general public.
IMPLEMENTATION
1. This Order will be in effect on June 30th, 2021 shall remain in effect until June 30, 2026 or until rescinded, whichever occurs first.
2. A violation of the above prohibition(s) is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for an organization, and/or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months. [Title 16 USC 551, Title 18 USC 3571(b) (6), Title 18 USC 3581 (b) (7)].
