Lower Soldier
Lower Soldier Trail is located primarily within the Four Peaks Wilderness area. It provides a non-motorized wilderness experience for users in place of utilizing MT-401A that is cherry stemmed into the wilderness.

Located within the Four Peaks Wilderness on the Mesa Ranger District.
Use of any mechanized or motorized travel is prohibited on this trail. No more than 15 people are allowed to be in a group. No more than 15 head of livestock are allowed in a group.
Getting There
Trailhead/Starting Points
Trail starts roughly 5.5 miles down Forest Road #401 near where the road turns South to parallel Cottonwood Creek. The trail starts on the East side of Cottonwood Creek and continues East following the drainage.
Directions
From Phoenix, take State Route #87 North toward Payson and get off at Forest Road #143 Four Peaks - El Oso. Follow the 143 road SE roughly 3 miles before turning right and dropping onto Forest Road #401. Take 401 roughly 5.5 miles to the Cottonwood Camp area. Road conditions may vary. A high clearance 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Access to this area requires the purchase of an OHV Permit as it is within the Rolls OHV Permit Zone.
