Hunting and shooting are allowed on the Carson National Forest. Visitors must follow any relevant local, state, and federal laws when participating in these activities.

Hunting
The Carson National Forest is home to all or portions of several game management units, including 2B, 45, 49, 50, 51A, 51B, 52, 53, and 55A. Hunting is managed by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, which sells licences and lists regulations on its website.
Know Before You Go
- Be aware of current fire restrictions and seasonal road closures.
- When applicable, regulations for target shooting also apply to hunting, including archery.
- Unplanned closures and restrictions happen. Check the Alerts page before heading out.
- Prescribed fires can occur when appropriate conditions exist, including during fall deer and elk hunts.
