Temporary closure of McPhee Park road for resource protection
Dolores, Colo., August 28, 2025 – Due to recent resource damage, the Dolores Ranger District has issued a closure order for McPhee Park Road (NFS Road 531) located north of Dolores, Colorado on the west side of the Dolores Norwood Road in Montezuma County (see official closure order and map). Forest Service personnel recently discovered damage to natural resources important to the area and the purpose of this closure is to temporarily protect those resources from further damage.
The closure order is effective August 26, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. through July 26, 2026, at 12:01 a.m., unless rescinded, and restricts public access to the entirety of NFS Road 531. There are numerous camping opportunities in the area, including the House Creek developed campground and dispersed camping along NFS Road 529, and the public is advised to stay out of McPhee Park.
Violations of this closure order are punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, or by imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
