Waterfall Cutoff Trail #638

The Waterfall Cutoff Trail begins at an intersection with the Doubletop Walrod Spur Trail #405.2A and the Doubletop Waterfall Spur Trail #405.3A, and ends at an intersection with the Waterfall Creek Trail #555. This trail contours some steep slopes as it dips in and out of draws crossing 5 streams along the way. It is pretty narrow with some exposure and spectacular view of the surrounding area. As you near the end, you'll cross a stream and see a forest service sign for Waterfall Cut Off in the gully where the trail will seemingly end. If you climb out of the gully and look for The Waterfall Creek trail you’ll find it maybe 20 yards to the east.

Directions

From Crested Butte: Travel south on Hwy 135 for approximately 6.5 miles to the intersection with County Road 740, Cement Creek Road. CR 740 becomes FSR 740 at the National Forest boundary. Turn left onto CR 740 and continue for approximately 2.9 miles to FSR 740.2C, Walrod Gulch Road. Turn north onto FSR 740.2C and continue for approximately 1.6 miles to the end of the road where the Walrod Gulch Trail #412 begins. Follow the Trail 412 for approximately 1 mile to an intersection with the Doubletop Walrod Spur Trail #405.2A. Follow Trail #405.2A for 0.4 miles to the intersection with the Doubletop Waterfall Spur Trail 405.3A and the beginning of the Waterfall Cutoff Trail #638. Stay straight to continue on the Waterfall Cutoff Trail.
