Silver Spruce #517

The Silver Spruce Trail #517 begins at the intersection with Park Creek Road, FSR #262. It crosses Park Creek and ascends out of the Park Creek drainage through aspen and open meadows with scenic views of the Park Creek drainage. The trail travels through open meadow, aspen and spruce/fir entering private property for a short distance. There are scenic views of the Battlement Mountains and the Leon and Park drainages as the trail ascends to a ridge top. The trail continues through several small drainages crossing small stream until it intersects the Porter Flats Road, FSR #266 where it ends.

WESTERN ACCESS:

From Collbran, travel 6.4 miles east on Colorado State Highway 330 to the junction with Highway 64. Take the right fork onto highway 64 to Vega Reservoir and travel 3 miles to the turnoff to Vega State Park. Turn right onto the road that passes over the dam of Vega Reservoir and travel south on Park Creek Road, FSR #262, for approximately 5.1 miles to the junction with the Silver Spruce Trailhead.

EASTERN ACCESS:

From Collbran, travel 6.4 miles east on Colorado State Highway 330 to the junction with Highway 64. Stay left on Highway 330 and travel 7.4 miles east to the intersection with Buzzard Divide Road, FSR #265. Travel for 9.9 miles south on Buzzard Divide Road until its intersection with Willow Creek Road, FSR #263. Turn right (southwest) and travel along the Willow Creek drainage for 5.7 miles until its intersection with Porter Flats Road, FSR #266. At this intersection take the right fork and travel north-northwest for 5.5 miles to the Silver Spruce Trailhead.
