Short Point Cutoff #651.1A

The Short Point Cutoff Trail #651.1A is used primarily as a connecting route between the Brushy Ridge Road, FSR #409 and the Short Point Trail #615. The trail descends off the Brushy Ridge Road as a two-track for the first 0.40 miles and then forks to the southwest off this two-track as a single track trail, descending down one of the branches of North Fork Escalante Creek. The trail then travels on a bench on the north side of North Fork Escalante Creek before it begins descending off the rim at a steep grade into North Fork Escalante Creek. The last 0.20 miles of the Short Point Cutoff Trail is very steep and rocky as the trail descends off the rim into the canyon. This section of the trail is difficult to traverse on horseback.

UPPER ACCESS:

From the Northern Forest Boundary, travel 15.4 miles south on the Divide Road, FSR #402, to its junction with the Dominguez Road, FSR#408. Turn left onto the Dominguez Road and travel northeast 0.3 miles to where the Brushy Ridge Road, FSR #409, forks right (southeast) off the Dominguez Road in front of a fence line. Turn right and travel south and east on the Brushy Ridge Road to the Short Point Cutoff Upper Trailhead.

LOWER ACCESS:

Travel 2.76 miles down the Short Point Bench Trail #651 from its upper trailhead to its intersection with the Short Point Cutoff Trail, and then travelling down the Short Point Cutoff Trail 0.6 miles from this intersection to the Lower Short Point Cutoff Trailhead in North Fork Escalante Creek.
