Sheep Mountain #253

The Sheep Mountain Trail #253 begins at an intersection with the Little Cimarron Trail #229 and ends on a ridge at 11,880 feet.  This short trail has spectacular views of Sheep Mountain which rises to 13,168 feet. The summit of Sheep Mountain is very popular with Mountaineers and this trail provides access. The entire length of this trail is in the Uncompahgre Wilderness where Wilderness Regulations apply.

Directions

Alpine/Little Cimarron Trailhead:

From Montrose, travel approximately 21 miles to the intersection with County Road 864, Little Cimarron Road. Turn south on CR 864 and continue for approximately 12.5 miles to the Trailhead, CR 864 becomes FSR 864 at the forest boundary. Follow the Little Cimarron Trail for approximately 4.6 miles to the Sheep Mountain Trail.
