Rim #122

The Rim Trail #122 begins and ends on Forest Service Road #402, South Divide Road. Following the trail counter clockwise, the trail travels along an old two track climbing gradually through an aspen forest for the first 2 miles to the Rim of the Uncompahgre Plateau. There are spectacular view from the rim of the San Juan Mountains. It continues along the rim for about another 2.1 miles before it descends back to FSR #402, reaching its end after another 1.2 miles.

Directions

From Montrose: Travel west on Highway 90 for approximately 3.4 miles to the intersection with 6250 Road, Dave Wood Road. Turn south onto 6250 Road and continue for approximately 11.3 miles to the National Forest Boundary.  Dave Wood Road becomes Forest Service Road #510 at the forest boundary. Continue on FSR #510 for approximately 6.5 miles to its intersection with FSR #402, South Divide Road. Turn north onto FSR #402 and follow it north and west for approximately 1.25 miles to the eastern end of the trail which is signed on the south side of the road. To follow the trail counter clockwise, continue on FSR #402 for approximately another 2.5 miles to the western end of the trail also signed on the south side of the road.
