East Fork #228

The East Fork Trail #228 begins at the East Fork Trailhead at the end of Forest Service Road #863 and ends at an intersection with the Ridge Stock Driveway Trail #233 that originates on the Gunnison Ranger District. The Trailhead is on the Uncompahgre Wilderness boundary, where Wilderness Regulations apply, and the entire trail is within the wilderness. The trail follows an old mining road and travels at a gentle grade, paralleling the East Fork Cimarron River. It passes through meadow and forest for approximately 2 miles and then remains in timber for approximately the next 4 miles. When it breaks into the open the views of the surrounding area are spectacular. The trail continues to follow the river and climb in elevation and in approximately 8.3 miles it intersects the Middle Fork Trail #227. Continue to the right to stay on the East Fork Trail as it switchbacks up a ridge and after approximately 10.2 miles intersects the Ridge Stock Driveway Trail and ends.
