Baldy #216

The Baldy Trail #216 begins at the end of Forest Service road #872.1B and ends at its intersection with the Cutler Creek Trail #217 and the Dexter Creek Trail #205. There are several trails that connect the Cutler Creek Trail #217 in the Cutler Creek Drainage at around 9,000 feet to the Baldy Trail #216 on Baldy Ridge, where the elevation is above 10,500 feet. After climbing a series of switchbacks, the trail climbs to an elevation of approximately 10,500, where it intersects the Baldy Peak Trail #216.1A. It continues through a forest of subalpine fir, spruce and aspen. At approximately 3.2 miles it intersects the Storm Gulch Trial #212, at approximately 4.3 miles it intersects the Short Cut Trail #138, at approximately 4.8 miles it intersects the Okeson Trail #137 and at approximately 5.8 miles it intersects the Left Fork Cutler Creek Trail #235, before ending at the Cutler Creek and Dexter Creek Trails. The Baldy Trail provides great views of the Cimarrons and the Sneffels range. Most of this trail is within the Uncompahgre Wilderness where Wilderness Regulations apply.

Directions

From Ouray:

Travel north on Hwy 550 for approximately 1.7 miles to the intersection with County Road 14, Dexter Creek Road. Turn right onto CR 14 and continue for approximately 1 mile to the fork in the road, take the left fork onto CR 14A. Follow CR 14A, which becomes Forest Service Road #872 at the National Forest boundary, for approximately 1.5 miles to the intersection with FSR #872.1B. Turn left onto FSR 872.1B and continue for approximately 0.3 miles to its end where the trail begins.
