  • Delays for Lightning Creek Road 244 During Road Work

Beginning Wednesday, September 10, motorists and forest visitors using FSR 244 (Lightning Creek) from McComas Meadows to China Point will see intermittent closures of up to four hours during culvert installation and road maintenance.

Intermittent closures of three to four hours are expected while equipment is operating. The project is expected to last approximately three weeks. Work will occur between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday-Friday. The road will remain open on weekends for public access. Heavy machinery and equipment will be staged in the area.

This project completes necessary maintenance and will improve drainage and road conditions for forest visitors, improve access for fire, and prepare the road for upcoming timber sales and vegetation management projects.

This project is being completed by the Nez Perce Tribe Department of Forestry and Fire Management, who is providing services on Nez Perce -Clearwater National Forest lands under a Good Neighbor Agreement.  The Good Neighbor Authority allows tribes, states, and counties to complete restoration work in partnership with the Forest Service. These agreements facilitate the pace and scale of restoration work on federally managed lands and across boundaries.

Questions on this project should be directed to Salmon River Ranger District at  208-839-2211.
