Hyalite Area Occupancy Order
Prohibitions apply to National Forest System lands in Hyalite Canyon beginning at the Forest Boundary in T. 3 S., R. 5 E., section 14, within one-half (1/2) mile either side of Hyalite Road #62, South Fork Hyalite #620, and East Fork Hyalite Road # 6280, to ½ mile beyond the terminus of either road in T. 4 S, R. 6 E., sections 34 and 25 respectively. See the attached map, Exhibit A.
- 36 CFR 261.58 (e). Camping in a location other than in a signed designated campsite provided by the Forest Service. Campsites are designated with a universal camp symbol and/or site number on a sign post adjacent to the site.
- 36 CFR 261.52 (a). Building, maintaining, attending or using a camp fire that is not completely contained within a permanently installed metal fire ring, at a signed designated campsite or picnic area provided by the Forest Service.
This purpose of this Order is to protect the municipal watershed, provide safe recreational opportunities, and to manage the proliferation of resource impacts caused by unregulated camping (i.e. campfires, improper disposal of human waste, loss of stream bank vegetation, etc.) in this popular and highly valued recreation area.

OCCUPANCY AND USE RESTRICTIONS – HYALITE CANYON GALLATIN NATIONAL FOREST
BOZEMAN RANGER DISTRICT
Pursuant to 36 Code of Federal Regulations 261.50 (a) the following acts are prohibited on National Forest System (NFS) lands within the Bozeman Ranger District of the Gallatin National Forest. These restrictions are in addition to those enumerated in Subpart A, Part 261, Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations. This Order will become effective when signed and will remain in effect until rescinded.
THE FOLLOWING ACTS ARE PROHIBITED:

EXEMPTIONS:
Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50 (e), the following persons are exempt from this order:
- Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

PENALTY: Violations of these Prohibitions are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. [16 U.S.C. 551, and 18 U.S.C. 3559 and 3571]
NOTIFICATION: A copy of this order shall be posted as prescribed under 36 CFR 261.51.
