GALLATIN NF TRAILS - BICYCLE USE RESTRICTIONS
Pursuant to Title 36 Code of Federal Regulations 261.50 (a) and (b), the following restrictions are in effect on the Gallatin National Forest (see the descriptions below, and attached exhibits). These restrictions are in addition to those enumerated in Subpart A, part 261, Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations, and become effective when signed and remains in effect until rescinded.
36 CFR 261.55 – Forest Development Trails:
Use by any type of traffic or mode of transport prohibited by the order. {Title 36, 261.55(c)}
For the purpose of this order the following are prohibited on the Bozeman Ranger District. :
- Possessing or using any bicycle on Saturdays between June 16 and September 4 (see Exhibit A).
The Bridger Foothills Trail #534 from the Trailhead at the “M” parking lot in Section 34, T. 1S., R. 6E., northerly to its junction with the Sypes Canyon Trail #531 in the northwest quarter of Section 22. T.1S., R.6E. And the Sypes Canyon Trail from the Trailhead in Section 16, T.1S. R. 6E easterly to the junction with the Bridger Foothills Trail in the northwest quarter of Section 22, T.1S., R.6E.
- Possessing or using any bicycle on Sundays and Mondays between July 16 and September 4 (see exhibit B).
The East Fork of Hyalite Trail #434 from the trailhead in Section 25, T.4S.,
R. 6E. southerly to the trail terminus near Heather Lake.
Possessing or using any bicycle on Fridays and Saturdays between July 16 and September 4 (see exhibit B).
The Hyalite Trail # 427 from the Grotto Falls Trailhead in Section 34, T.4S., R.6E. southerly to the junction with the Storm Castle Trail #185 in Section 23, T.5S., R.6E.
Please see the attached map exhibit. This order implements the “time share” component for mountain bikes of the Gallatin Travel Plan 2006 Decision. This order is in effect until it is rescinded.
Exemptions:
Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50 (e), the following are exempt from this order:
- Any person with a permit authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
